- 02. Aug. 2024

- Since 1 August 2024, 41 new apprentices have started at Mister Spex
- This year, the prospective opticians are starting their apprenticeship at Mister Spex in Berlin, Cologne, Münster, Reutlingen and Mannheim
- Around 174 apprentices have already started an apprenticeship in optometry at Mister Spex since 2016
Mister Spex is starting the new 2024 apprenticeship year with 41 new apprentices. A total of 38 apprentices in the field of optometry and three in the commercial field (dialogue marketing, office management, e-commerce) are starting their professional careers at Mister Spex. The high-quality apprenticeship provided by Mister Spex contributes significantly to the strategic reorientation of the company and the brand core. The aim is to position Mister Spex as a leading expert in the field of ophthalmic optics.
Building a new generation of optician experts
The new apprentices are spread across the five locations in Berlin, Cologne, Münster, Reutlingen and Mannheim, where Mister Spex is represented with its training workshops. Since 2016, Mister Spex has continuously opened training workshops to train qualified opticians and thus ensure the high quality of optometry in Germany. The first training workshop was opened in Berlin, followed by further locations in Münster, Reutlingen, Mannheim and most recently in Cologne. This strategic expansion makes it possible to actively combat the shortage of skilled labour in the industry and optimally prepare the next generation of opticians for their professional future.
Since 2016, a total of 205 apprentices have started their career at Mister Spex: 174 in the optical field and 31 in the commercial field.
Holistic and practical apprenticeship at Mister Spex
Apprenticeship at Mister Spex is divided into the areas of store, training workshop and vocational school. Importance is attached to equal training in all three areas. The official training framework plan is supplemented by a company training plan.
An outstanding feature of the apprenticeship programme at Mister Spex is the intensive training in the training workshop. Apprentices spend 14 weeks per apprenticeship year in the training workshop in order to concentrate fully on practical skills. This allows them to focus on their technical skills without being distracted by sales activities in the store. In the store, on the other hand, the apprentices can concentrate fully on customer service and sales.
“We are proud of our training workshop, where we train the optician experts of the future. In this way, we make a valuable contribution to the entire industry and ensure the high quality of optometry,” says Benjamin Hehner, Lead Operational Apprenticeship at Mister Spex.
Mister Spex provides apprentices with intensive support throughout their training period, particularly in school subjects and through exam simulations to optimise preparation for the practical and theoretical exams. The regular apprenticeship period is three years but can be shortened to 2.5 or 2 years under certain conditions. It is also possible to complete the apprenticeship part-time, which can extend the apprenticeship period accordingly.
The success of Mister Spex’s apprenticeship programme is reflected in the recent achievements of Jona-Marie Gerdelmann from Hamburg. Not only did she successfully pass her journeyman’s examination, she is also the first chamber winner to be sponsored by Mister Spex. She will now represent the company in the nationwide competition.
