Mister Spex sets an example against blood cancer

Winter is just around the corner and the festive season is approaching. For many of us, it’s a time of giving and giving thanks. At Mister Spex, we want to use this festive mood to do something good not only for ourselves, but also for others. We are therefore launching a special campaign in December and January: all Mister Spex employees living in Germany are cordially invited to register with the DKMS. The best thing about it: Mister Spex will cover the costs as a donation.

Blood cancer is a serious and widespread disease in Germany. Every year, over 11,000 people are diagnosed with the disease. It affects people of all ages – although the average age is around 50. The chances of recovery increase significantly if a suitable stem cell donor can be found. However, the chances of finding a suitable donor within the family are only 30%. At DKMS, the success rate when a donor is found is an impressive 80%. It is therefore essential that as many people as possible are registered.

Our employees share their experiences and emphasise the relevance of this campaign. As Karolin from Customer Service explains, not every registered donor is actually called upon to donate. “I’ve been registered with DKMS for around 25 years and have been contacted once so far. After further samples, it turned out that I wasn’t a suitable stem cell donor after all.” This anecdote shows that registration in itself has enormous value – it’s about being ready. To help when the moment comes.

Thomas, who is responsible for IT at Mister Spex, reminds us that the decision to help is in our own hands: “Even if you are considered as a stem cell donor, you can still say ‘no’. If the worst comes to the worst, you give so much for a person in need that even a little pain doesn’t really hurt.” This perspective is crucial to overcoming potential fears.

Johannes from Customer Service brings the pre-Christmas spirit into play: “Now is the time to do something good. You can give yourself a present before Christmas and donate a sample to DKMS, a great offer from Mister Spex.” A real gift, not just to yourself, but to the whole community.

Karolin summarises the relevance of the campaign: “I think it’s super important to be registered with DKMS. DKMS is primarily concerned with quantity and a high potential of donors for patients.” Johannes, who registered a few months ago, adds: “It’s about starting small. You don’t have to pull up trees to save lives. Registering with DKMS is enough.”

Thomas, who has been registered with DKMS for almost eight years, also recognises the importance of the initiative: “I had a case of blood cancer in my family. That made me realise that I had to do something myself. I quickly realised that it’s a very small effort that can have an incredibly big impact for people affected by blood cancer.”

We are proud that Mister Spex is supporting this campaign and offering the opportunity to register. Thomas emphasises: “I think it’s so cool that we as a company are also offering this locally. It removes a hurdle for employees and is for a really good cause.”

Our common goal: as a community, to fight blood cancer and give hope. In Karolin’s words: “A registration campaign like this brings us even closer together as Spexies: One for all, all for one!”

As Spexies, we want to come together this winter and make it a special time of giving. Because each and every one of us can make a difference – for ourselves, for the team and, above all, for a person who urgently needs our help. Register, make a change!
